What to Expect
Following is important information about your course. Please read carefully. This is a full-day ice climbing and mountaineering trip in the Catskill Mountains in New York.
We'll meet at Phelps Gate at 8am to fit equipment and arrange carpools for the 2.5+ hour drive to the Catskills. We'll climb until about 4pm, then carpool home, likely to return to New Haven around 8/830pm.
We will be hiking in a cold, snowy winter environment. Plan and dress accordingly with lots of warm, synthetic layers.
Cotton clothing including jeans and leggings are not permitted on ice climbing trips.
Prepare much the way you would for a cold day of skiing or snowboarding with weather resistant snow pants, jackets and gloves.
Bring a daypack with extra food, water and medications along with the following items. We'll be eating our lunch/snacks at the crag.
Carpools to/from NY to be arranged by Yale Outdoors leaders. Ascent Climbing is unable to provide transportation.
